The Way of the Strangers: Encounters with the Islamic State by Graeme Wood
This book gave me all the answers.
I wanted to know how seemingly normal westerners, amongst others, could choose to sacrifice their lives to ISIS. This book gave me all the answers.
Wood’s first-hand research adds gravitas to the conclusions drawn. He clearly explains the varying beliefs of ISIS supporters, the origins of those beliefs that bind them together, the reasoning behind the atrocities they perpetrate etc and he does so without judgement or prejudice.
Wood’s clear, accomplished writing style along with the overall planning of this book, can answer all questions anyone has concerning ISIS. I can’t recommend it highly enough. This is only my sixth five star rating out of more than sixty reviews.
