The Dry by Jane Harper 3 stars
This novel has a great opening and a very accomplished writing style. Harper has established a superbly atmospheric setting in a drought-ridden, isolated Australian farming community. Mostly I found the story fascinated but by the end I felt disappointed on two counts. I don’t want to put anyone off enjoying this book, which many others have loved, by giving away any spoilers. However, in all honesty I had guessed one of the ‘mysteries’ very early on and there were no clues given to work out the other. I’d have preferred the chance to solve the second one at least.
