Did you know?
this from Max Lucado’s wonderful book – Grace: More than We Deserve (Chapter 10).
Between 1854 and 1929 200,000 children abandoned by parents in eastern USA through epidemics, poverty and so on, were loaded on to trains and driven west. At each station where the trains stopped, the children were lined up along the platform. Potential parents evaluated health, asked questions and even examined teeth. Those selected were taken to their homes. The rest were loaded back on to the trains and taken to the next station.
It takes little imagination to realise the fates of many of these children and if you want a true, detailed, first-hand account read Lee Nailling’s biography.
