Transition by Ian Banks
This novel begins with: Apparently I am what is known as an Unreliable Narrator.
In this intriguing introduction Banks asks his reader to imagine the smooth readings of the needle on a seismograph suddenly starting to write in copperplate. He says that is how unlikely it is that he is writing the above quote, and that anyone is reading it. He shares fabulous humour with his reader. Banks cheerfully tells me the ending of his story at the beginning and it is a dramatic one. Following that and throughout the book I am unsure of the reliability of the account leading up to this end
